First Dental Visit at Lakewood Dental Centre
We see kids as early as a year to two years. We don’t generally start doing anything in terms of cleanings until age three. Two year olds are different in the same day. Two year olds are different depending upon which parent is with them. Two year olds are different depending upon how they feel that day. Part of it is it’s an individual response based on how the parents are, how the children are, and what kind of feedback we get from them. Sometimes it’s as simple as they sit in the chair in mom or dad’s lap and we hold onto them and we take a look, and sometimes it’s as simple as we just talk to them. It depends on how comfortable they are with the process. It is the type of thing that says that sometimes the same kid in the same family, one of them will be different than the other one. Sometimes they co-support each other and they get through the process. Other times, it’s the type of thing that says we can do a complete examination and we can do a cleaning on their teeth at the same time but again, it depends on the individual situation. We also do some dietary recommendations because it’s important that people understand that milk bottles are one of those things that can cause a significant problem in young children at the same time as eating habits are an important part of the prevention aspect of it, in addition to being able to clean their teeth. We like to have the parents involved in the process. We like to have them ask questions. We like to communicate with them about the different choices that are involved with it, and again, the more they play into the role of it, the better it is for all of us.
